Our Story

Margie Brown, a woman deeply rooted in her love for family and faith, embarked on a heartfelt mission in the summer of 2018. With a desire to support her two granddaughters, Jazmin Barnes, and Alaysha Barnes, through their college journeys, Margie knew she had to devise a creative solution. Jazmin had set her sights on a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Psychology while Alaysha pursued a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. Margie’s daughter, Latovah Barnes, a widow, was also dedicated to continue raising her three beautiful daughters after the death of her husband in 2011.

Margie began to pray and trusted God for an answer. She later gathered her loved ones and explored various ideas. It was during this brainstorming session when the thought of a hot dog stand, a quintessential American comfort food, emerged. However, Margie knew that their offering needed that extra touch to set them apart. Thus, the family secret chili recipe was incorporated into their menu, adding a unique and flavorful twist to their hot dogs. In June 2018, the family’s hot dog stand came to life, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. With warm smiles and a genuine passion for serving their community, they became a recognizable presence in Mount Pleasant and the wider Charleston area.

The fame of their famous chili dogs quickly spread, drawing in locals and visitors alike. The reception they received went beyond just monetary transactions. Well, wishes and generous donations poured in from kind-hearted individuals, fueling the motivation and determination of Jazmin and Alaysha to excel in their academic pursuits. However, as with any venture, there were both good and challenging days. Yet, the family held steadfast in faith that everything would unfold according to God’s plan. As the summer progressed, the hot dog stand became more than just a means of financial assistance. It transformed into a unifying force, bringing together a community under the banner of J.A.R. Chili Dogs.

The values of family and faith became the guiding principles that shaped their endeavors and interactions with others. Through their dedication and the sheer love they poured into their work, they created a space where people felt connected and supported. J.A.R. Chili Dogs became a testament to the power of family bonds and the unwavering strength that faith can provide. It showcased the incredible impact that a united family, driven by love and guided by faith, can have on both their aspirations and the lives of those they touch.

Our revered and renowned chili, crafted with the utmost care and devotion, holds a secret that sets it apart from any ordinary fare. While the stores may offer an array of chili options, Margie, our visionary creator, knew that a mere conventional chili would not suffice. She believed that true culinary excellence could only be achieved when every ingredient was infused with love and passion. Margie embarked on a journey, dedicating herself to perfecting a chili sauce that would transcend the boundaries of ordinary cuisine. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, as she fervently prayed for divine inspiration to guide her hand. Experimenting with an assortment of ingredients, she painstakingly combined flavors, seeking the harmonious blend that would yield the epitome of perfection. When the day finally arrived, and Margie’s hotdog stand opened its doors, the chili sauce became an instant sensation. The sheer delight that washed over people’s faces as they savored each bite was immeasurable. Word quickly spread, and soon, individuals from near and far flocked to experience the magic captured within Margie’s chili sauce. Yet, as requests for the recipe poured in, Margie’s response remained a secret, for the essence of this unparalleled chili lay beyond the mere enumeration of ingredients. It was an amalgamation of intangible qualities—a symphony of devotion, patience, and the unwavering belief that greatness can only be achieved when the heart is poured into every step of the creative process. And so, when inquisitive souls inquire about the recipe, all we can offer is a knowing smile and the simple phrase, “All in the sauce.” For within those three words lies a universe of love, dedication, and an indescribable touch that elevates our famous chili to a realm of its own—a testament to the power of culinary artistry and the magic that transpires when passion and flavor intertwine.

The Logo

The family business was initiated when Margie’s daughter, Latovah Barnes, recognized the potential to transform a college fundraiser into a full-fledged enterprise. To establish a distinct brand identity, she realized the importance of creating a unique logo. “Margie wanted to include her granddaughters into the logo since this was starting foundation”. The logo would incorporate the initials of her three granddaughters, Jazmin, Alaysha, and Ravyn, known as J.A.R. Furthermore, the logo would symbolize a jar of chili sauce, representing a secret recipe and encapsulating the essence of “All in the sauce.”
